You can only fit a certain number of plants on your desk and shelves, so keep things clutter-free (and out of the reach of pets) by trying some of these different ways to hang plants indoors. 

Hanging Driftwood

It's hard to go wrong with reclaimed wood, so this is one of our favourite DIY hanging planter ideas! It's the perfect blend of rustic, elegant, and modern, and it's always unique. It is a perfect structure to suspend several potted plants from, and you can easily hang it from the ceiling or window with two ropes. 

Its twisted shape and gnarled texture are so beautifully imperfect. You can leave the wood as-is, glaze it with lacquer, or paint it in any colour you want! Make sure your driftwood has been thoroughly cleaned and is free of insects.

Graphitic Wire Hangers

The boho macramé look may not be right for your plants, so try these mid-century-modern-inspired planters: wireframe hanging planters moulded into 3D cubist shapes. 

They bring a cool, modern vibe that's anything but kitschy, and even the ones with more complex shapes have a pleasing, minimalist aesthetic. You're bound to find an eye-catching shape that goes with your room's decor, whether it's a pyramid, prism, diamond, or dodecahedron.

Place taller varieties in the centre, then shorter varieties with different colours and textures in a ring around them. Add some trailing plants around the edge, like burro's tail or string of pearls, so they will spill out and grow downward.

Aside from the fact that many plants thrive in hanging glass terrariums, they also look so beautiful when they catch the window light. There are many cute terrarium layout ideas as well. 

You can display one large statement piece or a collection of small terrariums on strings of different lengths. They can be filled with soil, pebbles, or peat moss, but if you don't like the idea of having the medium visible through the bottom of the container, you can grow water plants instead! 

Water the terrarium and add some cuttings from an easy-to-propagate plant. They will quickly root! You can also fill an empty terrarium with tillandsia, otherwise known as air plants, and they will do just fine without soil or water.
