Practice Some Mindful Activities Suggested by Ishine365

These are stressful and hectic times for all of us. When we are anxious, stressed out, sad, irritated, or angry, naturally we want those feelings to vanish. It becomes difficult to tolerate the uncomfortable emotions, especially when it seems like there’s no way out. We try to ignore them by watching Netflix, exercising, working, or snacks. Or we may try to give ourselves some pampering or pep talk in the mirror. Such activities can be helpful at that moment but denying our feelings can make them intense that negatively impacts our mental and physical health. Instead of sweeping them under the rug, one way of healthily facing our emotions and feelings is to practice mindfulness. This is the practice of becoming self-aware in the current moment. In this blog, Ishine365 discusses some of the simple mindful practices that can help you remain calm in your daily life.

Deep Breathing Exercise

The quality of our breathing determines a lot about our current feelings or mental state. There’s a probability that if you’re feeling anxious, your breath may be shallow, short, or constrained. So one effective way to relieve stress is to practice deep breathing with the help of your diaphragm. Take a long deep breath when feeling cluttered, heavy or distracted. It will help to relax your nervous system by drawing your attention to the present moment. The best way to do this exercise is the four-count method. For four seconds breathe in and then breathe out for four seconds. Repeat this exercise five times.

Exercise for setting Intentions

Before opening your laptop and submerging yourself in work, take a few moments to mindfully center yourself. Setting aside a little time during the morning to set intentions can help you start your day with a clear mind. This activity can be done by journaling, reading, or meditation. Pick out the one which suits you best. You can also start with yoga or listen to something thoughtful. If you’re a night owl instead of a morning person, then you can take out some time in the evening or afternoon to clear your mind. You just need 10 minutes of your day.

Tea Drinking

If you love to drink tea every day, it’s a sign to try drinking it a bit slower. Better you try to draw your attention towards the sensations, sounds, or smells from the moment you start brewing your tea to the moment you finish your mug. If you’re a coffee person, you can perform this exercise in the same way. In fact, you can practice mindfulness in any activity you perform.

Exercise Introspection

During your daily grind, take out a few minutes, sit silently and observe your present mental state and the emotions you’re having. Note down the thoughts that arise. This activity will help you a lot in knowing your emotions as well as yourself. You can examine your mental state, emotions, and feelings better this way.

Make Gratitude List

Before going to bed at night or after you wake up in the morning, make it a habit to write down 10 things that you’re grateful for. In this way, you can count on your blessings and remind you of all the precious things in your life by keeping you grounded during the hard times.
