Any time of day is perfect for hiking for an outdoor enthusiast. However, while most night hikes are scheduled, unexpected delays on daytime trips may require you to hike back in the dark.

2. Which is more versatile?

The price of a flashlight varies, but in general, it is less expensive than a comparable-bright headlamp. The production of a flashlight has been highly commoditized and involves fewer parts across the industry. Entry-level headlamps, such as Coast's FL11, with a 130-lumen brightness rating, are quite inexpensive ($23) and suitable for most camp tasks.  

4. Which one offers long battery life? 

Lightweight headlamps have fewer batteries than larger torches, therefore they can't be used for long periods of time without recharging or changing batteries. As a result, night hikers with headlamps should always use lower brightness settings to extend battery life, and always check for a full charge or replace batteries. Before going on a night hike, it's a good idea to bring extra batteries.
