KOREAN DRAMA REVIEW : SIGNAL (2016)

Let's move on from Cheese in the Trap , because this time I want to introduce my dark horse for the recommendation of my favorite 2016 drama, Signal (2016) .

The value is 95 . The genres are crime, mystery, thriller, and a little fantasy. The cast consists of Cho Jin Woong (who is normal at first, but at the end it makes you really amazed), Lee Je Hoon (handsome!), and Kim Hye Soo (who, even though they are already beautiful seniors, are still extraordinary).

The main thing that makes it interesting are the cases in the story that are inspired by crimes that have indeed happened in South Korea there . Then this is the first crime theme drama that I really like. Then, even though there is an element of fantasy (and I was hesitant to watch this because of this) the story is still enjoyable to watch, even strengthening the depth of the story.

Suitable for masculine audiences, as well as adult audiences because some scenes even though they are not gory, are still not something that is good for minors to consume.

The story begins when a police officer named Park Hae Young (Lee Je Hoon) accidentally finds an old walkie-talkie that turns out to belong to a senior police officer named Lee Jae Han (Cho Jin Woong). Actually nothing special, if only the broken walkie-talkie didn't suddenly play Lee Jae Han's voice on the other end. The problem is, Hae Young received the signal in 2015 while Jae Han confessed that he was in the year 2000. And that's certainly not something that normally happens.

Confused by extreme confusion, Hae Young initially doubted Jae Han's words. But over time, Hae Young begins to believe that somehow, he and Jae Han can indeed communicate through time and space via the old walkie-talkie .

Together they both look for a bright spot from a complicated case. Hae Young will use his profiling skills based on information from Jae Han and the case records he has, while Jae Han will move to find the criminals of his time in order to save potential victims alive. Their cooperation paid off. A criminal caught in the past means changing the future. Some were saved but some had to die because of a modified destiny.

Even so, Jae Han and Hae Young remain determined as much as possible to reduce the number of victims who died in vain from the horrific cases they encountered. Until Hae Young finally found out that Jae Han was one of the police inspectors who took part in the case of the 2000 high school girl rape case – the case that caused Hae Young's older brother to go to prison, then die with a slashed wrist afterwards.

Will the two of them succeed in uncovering the real culprit of the case that took Hae Young's brother's life? Why can they talk to each other through time and space? What happened to Jae Han that Hae Young couldn't find his figure in 2015? Still alive or dead?

Maybe the plot sounds random, a little confusing, but I have to really emphasize that this one drama is cool . Initially, I was skeptical about the combination of crime and fantasy genres. Moreover, the South Korean crime dramas that I've watched (Bad Guy, Hidden Identity) in my opinion still don't catch on – I like the 'bad ass' stuff that ends up being forceful and the ones that make ilfil like that, you know. But Signal is different, from beginning to end the story is serious and everyone focuses on solving the cases reviewed. The characters, the setting, the plot, the dialogue, everything fits perfectly with each other. There is romance, there is also humor, but the portion does not cover the main theme, it makes you even more curious and infatuated.
