The Digital Nomad – A New Breed of Entrepreneur

We are in the middle of a digital explosion, with innovative digital solutions that empower humanity in so many ways and while entrepreneurship has always flourished, digital tools are a game-changer. The world has shrunk; you can enjoy a real-time video call with a Mongolian CEO and with on-demand real-time translation, languages are no longer a barrier to trade.

Moving around

One of the great things about working online is you can choose where you live; a typical Aussie digital nomad would think about leaving in February, maybe heading to Southeast Asia; you can miss your home winter and such is the level of online availability, you can organise everything from your laptop. Of course, you have office furniture in Melbourne at your shared office, but you don’t have to be there. Why not manage your business in a beach Bar on Bali? The digital nomad might stay in 3-4 different locations within a year.

Airbnb

This is a great platform for booking accommodation, long and short-term options are there; book a poolside villa in advance and you get a better deal. Once you know how to use the platform, Airbnb is all you need for living; 2-3 months would be a decent period in which to explore your surroundings. If you have the travel bug, this is the life for you, spilt your time between 3-4 locations and enjoy the best of life.

Time management

Of course, it isn’t all sunbathing and drinking an iced beer; you have to manage your time well and put your business before everything. Three or four hours a day works for most nomads; you have a work mindset and when the time comes to connect with the web and do your stuff, you should be focused.

Visas

Every country has their own rules and regulations when it comes to visas; all embassies have a website and e-visas are an easy way to go about getting what you need. Overstaying a visa can have serious consequences, so never stay beyond your visa; there are usually extension options

Real-time video

Thanks to VoIP, we can now enjoy high-res video calls, which costs next to nothing for a business package; talk to people all over the world; you can set up Zoom collaborations when you and your team can work together as if you were in the same room. You can share files and use a communal whiteboard; Zoom has many great features; talk to a managed IT services about VoIP business communication and you won’t regret it. When travelling from country to country, you don’t need local simcards, all you need is a stable Internet connection and you can communicate effectively at a very affordable rate.
